A Look at Music Videos - Celine Dion My Heart Will Go On

Initial reaction:
When I first heard the music  the theme seemed to be sad and greatly depressing

Analysis and interpretation:
The music video shows a lot of variety through out the song. The scene changes with the song to show a story between the two lovers. It is obvious that this song was made for the movie because the clips from Titanic are in the video. This song was made to establish a connection between the audience and the couple so that we felt what they felt. I think the song does this well. The themes of this song may be that even though they both love each other they have the ability to move on.

Consideration of cultural context:
I am guessing that this song was inspired by the actual titanic.

Expression of aesthetic judgement:
The instrumental, lyrics, and clips in the music  video come together as one to portray a story of the lovers and make you feel connected to their story. The music set the mood of sadness but you can tell it is about love. The visual were clips from the movie. They brought the audience from the beginning to the end of the love story and really developed a connection with the audience.

Ongoing reflection:
I feel that the song is very effective by itself but with the video it becomes a little stronger.

Web 2.0

From the beginning literacy has been defined as being able to read and write. Now days that has completely changed. We no longer have to just read a book or write on a piece of paper. We can now also type out documents and access info using various websites and applications. The Internet opens up a new way do things better, organize and customize. The technology we already have and the ones that are to come will keep changing the definition of literacy. Soon literacy will not be physically be reading or writing but will be reading on ebooks or posting blogs.

Web 2.0 is challenging us to rethink ourselves. Our relationships are a lot more complicated now. There are so many thing that one needs to take into account when using the Internet for communication. Fiends we meet in person are different That the friends we meet online. We don't actually know anything about the person except for what they tell us. Education has also changed. Education is integrated online for students to take full advantage of the Internet. In some cases we may not need to go to school at all. Every aspect of our live are now integrated with the internet.

The Hunter Hunting the Hunted or is it just the Media Preying on the Young

I think no one really knows why people are portrayed the way they are in today's society. No one should really care how other people look and want to be like them. We are all unique so it is kind of impossible to be like one another, but as humans we have a need to belong and this is where I think the media comes in. The media is there to tell us how to belong. Whether they are right or wrong it is up to you to decide.

Am i affected by the images I see? Honestly, I don't care what the media puts out there and most of it has no real importance or relevance to me. Even so, it probably does affect me in ways I don't know. For all I know these images could be making me think men need to dress a certain way to be cool and acceptable or a woman looks a certain way to be considered attractive. It really is a weird feeling to know the media may be giving me my identity instead of being myself.

For the young men and women out there, it's most likely difficult to deal with all the negative things being thrown your way from the media. A way it won't change you and make you not really you is to be full confident in who you are and don't doubt yourself.

What would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn't all glammed up? I would have no reaction at all. Why should I care how a person looks on a magazine. If they want to dress up, let them; if not then that's fine. Is this a possible route that society should take? Why or Why not? Of course it is, but only when society forgets about looks and being all the same. Will it ever happen? A long time into the future.

File Sharing? Good or Bad?

File sharing? Is it good or bad? As a teen who downloads music, movies and games I would say that it is good for the consumer. A person doesn't have to pay for entertainment anymore. File sharing allows people to download things for free. For consumers that is the best thing that can happen, but for the companies that are producing the products it would. It therefore depends on who you are and how you use it. Companies that spend millions on their products and services will definitely be losing money but as far as i can see that has not affected the music or movie industry. As a consumer it is good only if you do it for entertainment. Getting money off of the work of others if wrong and they deserve the consequences.

On the other, if I was the one who produced art/song/movie I would obviously have a different opinion. Even so I would know that today there is almost nothing that can be done and benefit me so i would eventually not mind because there is other no other choice.

It is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it is only intended for personal use. I personally do not feel it is wrong because it is really not hurting anyone I use it for personal use. I think this is also true for many people as well. Many people do not think about if it is wrong or how will clicking download affect other people. Personal use is just that, to use something for ones own sake is completely fine. I just don't see how it can be wrong

Texting in Social Situations

My thoughts on  texting are that it is a very useful tool that allows many people to stay connected and communicate at any time and place. It has never been easier to send a quick message to a friend or give your parents a quick heads up on where you're going. Like most things there is always a pro and con to the use of anything. From a social stand point texting is a  very convenient way to access contact with other people, but can also be taken too far to the point that is the primary source of communication. Specifically in social situation it is not bad.

It's rude to Text while someones' talking
Taken from Google
I only find it rude when someones' texting if they do it for the whole conversation and barely acknowledges me. Other than that it doesn't bother me and is completely fine. I also think that it would dependent on who your talking to for texting to be rude if your the one texting.

5 RULES OF TEXTING:
  • avoid texting while in conversation with a person
  • don't text instead of actually talking to a person if the person is in the same room
  • don't text in class
  • never have your phone out if your talking to an important person (boss, teacher, police)
  • don't text constantly
